An Eye-opening Experience

While descending into the dormant Thrihnukagigur volcano, my heart was pounding with excitement. And it鈥檚 so amazing to be surrounded by different colours and shapes of rocks that were formed about 4500 years ago. The stunning journey is actually not limited to visiting the inside of the volcano, but also outside. We walked on a path through the lava field and crossed between the North America and European tectonic plates when heading to Thrihnukagigur. It鈥檚 tranquil and beautiful. Thanks to the professional guides and the entire team for giving me this unique and eye-opening experience!
2nd time I go there, def not the last! <3

Ok so this is one of the coolest outdoor activity to do near Reykjavik and a once in a lifetime experience. Get yourself inside the lava chamber of the volcano and admire the magnificent colors on the chamber walls. Definitely take some waterproof shoes and pants if you go in fall/winter. My 11yo daughter and I didn’t and spent a few hours soaking wet at -4 degrees. Memorable experience 馃檪 The guides are super friendly. Alexia our guide was awesome and so kind to lend us some of her own clothes. Mister T’s islander soup is to die for. Thanks … Continue reading

Plans are to build a ground tunnel from the surface that lead into the centre of the crater. From the tunnel, visitors will walk to a viewing platform inside the crater from where the enormous size of the chamber can be enjoyed.

D枚gg studied business and has mainly been working as a sales and marketing manager for Icelandic companies selling their designs abroad. D枚gg started guiding for Inside the Volcano part-time 3 years ago, sort of as a paid vacation, but totally fell in love with it and decided it was much more fun to take tourists into a volcano than sitting at a desk all day long. D枚gg is always ready for adventures and loves the outdoors.
